- 1 October 2021 – Professor Qiuhua Liang and Dr Huili Chen recently received a new research grant from UKRI to develop Fit-for-purpose high-resoLution risk Assessment and forecasting System for rainfall-induced Hazards in Bhutan (FLASH).
- 11 October 2021 – Dr Jiaheng Zhao, Dr Huili Chen, Professor Qiuhua Liang, Dr Xilin Xia and colleague from Loughborough University, collaborators from University of Glasgow (UK), Brunel University London (UK) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (Japan) jointly published a paper about flood risk assessment under different development strategies in Sustainability Science.
- 24 October 2021 – Professor Qiuhua Liang gave an invited keynote talk on ‘Rapid flood modelling using deep convolutional neural networks and a high-performance hydrodynamic model’ in the 5th international symposium on Shallow Flows. Dr Huili Chen gave a talk on modeling and impact assessment of glacial lake outburst floods.
- 28 October 2021 – Dr Huili Chen, Dr Jiaheng Zhao, Professor Qiuhua Liang and partners from International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) jointly published a paper about object-based impact assessment of glacial lake outburst floods in Science of the Total Environment.
- 2 September 2021 – Dr Xilin Xia had twin baby girls. Congratulations Xilin! Welcome the new babies!
- 30 August 2021 – Qian Li (PhD Candidate) gave birth to a baby girl. Congratulations Qian! Welcome the new baby!
- 24 December 2020 – Jinghua Jiang (PhD Candidate), Prof Qiuhua Liang, Dr Xilin Xia and collaborator from Xi’an University of Technology, China jointly published a paper, entitled “A coupled hydrodynamic and particle-tracking model for full-process simulation of nonpoint source pollutants “, in Environmental Modelling & Software.
- 15 December 2020 – Professor Qiuhua Liang and Dr Huili Chen attended the virtual Annual Dialogue of the Koshi DRR Knowledge Hub. Dr Huili Chen gave a talk on ‘Assessing GLOF exposure using high-performance hydrodynamic modelling and open-source data’.
- 10 September 2020 – Professor Qiuhua Liang recently received a new research grant from UKRI to develop new modelling technology for near-real-time flood risk assessment (PYRAMID; NE/V003321/1).

- 29 May 2020 – Dr Xiaodong Ming and co-authors jointly published a paper, entitled “Real-time flood forecasting based on a high-performance 2D hydrodynamic model and numerical weather predictions“, in Water Resources Research.
- 20 May 2020 – Dr Xilin Xia, Prof Qiuhua Liang and collaborators from TU Berlin and other Universities jointly published a review paper, entitled “Neurocomputing in Surface Water Hydrology and Hydraulics: A Review of Two Decades Retrospective, Current Status and Future Prospects“, in Journal of Hydrology.
- 12 May 2020 – Dr Ling Jiang and co-authors published a new paper, entitled “A Multi-Scale Mapping Approach Based on a Deep Learning CNN Model for Reconstructing High-Resolution Urban DEMs“, in the Water journal.
- 22 April 2020 – Professor Qiuhua Liang appointed as a management director of the International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR).
- 17 April 2020 – Professor Qiuhua Liang invited to become an associate editor of Journal of Hydro-environment Research.
- 30 Mar 2020 – Dr Huili Chen, Dr Xilin Xia and Prof Qiuhua Liang gave a webinar on HiPIMS including tutorial to ICIMOD and other partners from Nepal.
